Faith and science: A journey toward the spiritual understanding of illness. As a practicing medical doctor and Christian, I have come to comprehend the true essence of medicine goes beyond treatment and diagnosis. In my daily practice, I have learned that Jesus Christ must be the center of everything done in the health field.

Spirituality is the force that combines physical, mind, and social aspects; and strives to invite scientific medicine to have a more complete perspective that does not see only convalescent bodies but suffering people who ache from more than a mere physical condition, a spiritual burden.

I have seen how faith can transform the painful experience of illness. In our Latin culture, for example, there are customs such as applying ointments or resorting to traditional remedies that have been transmitted from generation to generation.

However, I have also observed that many patients place their blind trust in the medical diagnosis, giving it a power that it should not have. This diagnosis can become a spiritual bond that darkness will use to sow doubt and despair. It is here that faith in Jesus Christ becomes a fundamental pillar. When we focus our attention on the heavenly Father, we find hope and healing beyond the physical.

Medicine can be palliative, but faith offers a healing that transcends the visible. It is vital that everything we do and say is centered in the name of Jesus. We must overcome unbelief and proclaim God's immense power over the sick, enabling us to be instruments in the Lord's hands.

The root of all diseases has a spiritual component that affects the soul, body, and mind.

God's Word reminds us in Proverbs 20:27, "The human spirit is the lamp of the Lord that sheds light on one's inmost being."

As a practicing medical doctor and Christian, I have learned that by integrating faith into my medical practice, I can offer my patients a more comprehensive and compassionate approach. At the end of the day, my greatest desire is that every person who crosses my path not only receives medical care, but also a touch of the love and healing that only Jesus can offer.
